Rugby, Relationships and a Return to the City | RGH & London City 7s

Last week, RGH had the pleasure of attending the official launch of London City 7s 2026, hosted by Wedlake Bell on their rooftop overlooking the City of London.

It was one of those evenings that reminded us why relationships still matter in business.

In a world full of inboxes, automated outreach, LinkedIn noise and carefully worded follow-ups, there is still real value in getting people in the same room. Proper conversations. Shared interests. A bit of energy. A reason to connect beyond the usual “just checking in” email that nobody really wants to receive.

London City 7s creates exactly that kind of environment.

For those unfamiliar with the event, London City 7s is not simply a rugby tournament. It brings together elite rugby sevens, corporate teams, business leaders, sponsors, hospitality and networking in the heart of London. It’s a sport, business and community meeting in one place, with enough pace and personality to make it feel genuinely different.

That is one of the reasons RGH is proud to be supporting the event.

Hosted by former Scotland international and British & Irish Lion Jim Hamilton, the event brought together business leaders, rugby personalities and supporters of a tournament that is quickly becoming one of the most exciting fixtures on the rugby calendar.

We had the opportunity to hear from and meet some of rugby’s most recognisable names, including Olympic silver medallist and Ireland Sevens captain Harry McNulty OLY, double Olympic gold medallist Niko Matawalu, and England international Anthony Watson.

It was also fantastic to meet Mike Friday, one of the most influential figures in international rugby sevens, who has recently been appointed General Manager of London City 7s. His experience, profile and passion for the game will undoubtedly play a key role in the next stage of the tournament’s growth.

A special thank you must also go to Dan James, Founder of London City 7s. What started as a bold idea has grown into an event that brings elite sport, businesses, sponsors and communities together in a way that feels fresh, ambitious and unmistakably London.

For RGH, this partnership is about more than putting our name next to a sporting event.

It’s about creating meaningful opportunities for connection, bringing people together outside of the usual corporate setting and backing an event that reflects energy, ambition, teamwork and growth, all values that sit closely with how we operate as a business.
